Corrosion resistance and anomalous hydrogen evolution in chloride containing solutions of extruded cast and powder metallurgical Mg-1Zn alloy

چکیده
The corrosion resistance and anomalous hydrogen evolution of extruded cast powder metallurgical (PM) Mg-1Zn alloy were investigated. Potentiodynamic polarization revealed that the PM actively corroded at OCP due to enhanced cathodic kinetics, whereas remained spontaneously passive. HE measurements confirmed exhibited lower rates than alloy. Rp values for remarkably higher with over 90% charge ratio associated HE.

Investigation of Ca in the Microstructural Evolution and Porosity Analysis of ZK60 Alloy in As-Cast and Extruded Conditions
This research work has been carried out to study the effect of different Ca contents (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0) on the microstructure and porosity content of ZK60 alloys. The samples were examined by using optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate the modification efficiency of the alloy with different Ca concentrations. The cast specimens were modified, homogenized and extru...
متن کاملEffect of Hydrogen on Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking of AZ91 Alloy in Aqueous Solutions
The effect of hydrogen on the corrosion and stress corrosion cracking of the magnesium AZ91 alloy has been investigated in aqueous solutions. Hydrogen produced by corrosion in water diffuses into, and reacts with the Mg matrix to form hydride. Some of the hydrogen accumulates at hydride/Mg matrix (or secondary phase) interfaces as a consequence of slow hydride formation and the incompatibility ...

Thermal stability and the kinetics of the grain growth of nano-crystalline Mg-6Al-1Zn-1Si alloy prepared via mechanical alloying (MA) were investigated. It started with elemental powders, using a variety of analytical techniques including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction method (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive spectrometry (E...
متن کاملGrain Refinement and Enhancement of Mechanical Properties of Hot Extruded Rare-Earth Containing Magnesium Alloy
The effects of rare earth addition and hot extrusion process on the grain refinement of magnesium alloy were studied. The as-cast Mg-6Al-1Zn (AZ61) alloy had the average grain size of ~ 64 µm and its microstructure consisted of α-Mg and Mg17Al12 phase. By partial substitution of Al with Gd to reach Mg-4.8Gd-1.2Al-1Zn alloy, it was observed that the Mg17Al12 phase disappeared and two new interme...
